The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a prominent awards ceremony nears, one notices a demand for introducing additional classifications to acknowledge overlooked contributions and delight the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and it will always generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Limited numbers of logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most popular titles in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games competing to become highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait 35 years.
